Sewing Group

Our wonderful sewing group have been following our theme of ‘Reduce, Reuse, Recycle’, by turning old shirts into cushions.  They have worked hard this term with Mrs Talbot and have all created fantastic cushions.

Tongan Language Week

This week we celebrated Tongan Language Week.

The theme for this year is: Fakakoloa ‘o Aotearoa ‘aki ‘a e Tauhi Fonua – which means:  A Tongan Perspective of Enriching Aotearoa, New Zealand.

The Student Councillors performed a traditional Tongan dance known as the ma’ulu’ulu –(mah-oo-loo-oo-loo). It’s a sitting dance and the movements are mostly shown through the hands as well as the tilt of the head known as the teki (tek-key).

Here are some photos from our performance:

Daffodil Day

Last Friday the Student Councillors hosted a Daffodil mufti day. The main purpose was to support the Cancer Society of New Zealand. Everyone in our school got to wear something which was either green, yellow or orange. The school looked really colourful. The students and teachers made a gold coin donation.

See below for photos from our Daffodil Day mufti.

PCS Book Week

During week 4 we held our annual Book Week at PCS.  We had a number of exciting activities and events that made up Book Week – Scavenger Hunt, Book Swap, Puppet Show, Poetry Giving and the Book Character Dress Up Day.   All events were very popular and the students very much enjoyed Book Week.  Thanks to Miss Fok for her organisation of this fantastic event.

Cook Island Language Week

On Monday the 5th of August we celebrated Cook Island Language Week at our school.  The theme for this year is:

Taku rama, taau toi: ora te reo  (My torch, your adze: the language lives)

To celebrate Cook Island Language Week, the Student Councillors sang a song called ‘Te tere nei’.  This song is a popular children’s song, sung during church.  It;s about the train going to  heaven and everyone needs to hop on board.

See below for some photos of the Student Councillors in action.

Mihi Whakatau for Mr Holt

On Monday the 22nd of July we welcomed our new Principal, Mr Holt, to Papatoetoe Central School.  The year 3-6 students attended the Mihi Whakatau to welcome Mr Holt, with performances from the Kapa Haka Group and songs of welcome from all the students.  A number of staff and students from Mr Holt’s previous school, Manurewa Intermediate, came to farewell him and they performed a wonderful song and haka and presented the school with trees and seeds to plant as a link between our schools.
