Dear Parents and Caregivers

Already Term 1 is over. It has been another very successful term of learning for your children. Many of the classes have had trips as part of the topic of ‘Colonial New Zealand’ and we have had some sporting success this term also. Race Relations Day in March was another colourful day and we were are able to assist a school in Fiji thanks to your generous donations.

PCS Anzac ceremony:  Anzac Day is a very important part of our New Zealand history. This morning we recognised this very important date and held our ANZAC ceremony. Seven students shared their reflections of what ANZAC DAY means to them, and the choir sang ‘Lest we Forget’. Ritorya Tamilo presented the very moving poem ‘Lest We Forget’ written by Carol Ann Duffy, Britain’s Poet Laureate and Jessica Yang shared a true story where an old soldier reflects about why people go to war. The 12 Kaiawhina Rangitahi from year 6 were fantastic hosting the ceremony today. I am sure many of you will attend Anzac ceremonies around Auckland on 25 April, including the ceremony that takes place in our school grounds.

Reading over the holidays:  I am hoping we will have great autumn weather over the holiday break so we can still pursue outdoor activities. Holiday time is also a great time to catch up with some favourite books or to take time to visit the library.

Community Group Meetings:  As we did last year, we are going to meet with different parent community groups to discuss and share learning experiences and opportunities at our school. The first meeting will be with families from Asian countries on Thursday, 26 May at 6pm. More details to follow.

All the best for a very enjoyable and safe holiday break over the holidays with your children. Maybe you will catch up with some sports with the Blues, the Warriors and the Mystics. We look forward to seeing you all again next term.
