Fundraising for Fiji

Thank you to all families who contributed so generously to our mufti day fundraiser to support Fiji following the terrible cyclone last week.

The total raised is $1274.30

We plan to keep the container in the office available for two more weeks, if you would still like to make a donation.

Our intention is to send our donation directly to one of the schools in the Ba area – on the west side of Viti Levu, that was badly affected in the cyclone.

We will give you more details, once we have located a school in great need.

Thank you so much again.

Kind regards

Marilyn Gwilliam

Dear Parents and Caregivers

The term is well underway and it is lovely to see our students well engaged in their classrooms and around the school. We are all enjoying our regular weekly assemblies and the options programme.

PCS Swimming Sports: Our PCS swimming sports day will take place on Tuesday March 1st with carefully selected students in preparation for the Papatoetoe Schools’ Swimming Zone competition the following week.

Swedish Visitors: We have had a group of teachers and principals from Sweden visiting our school this week. They are very impressed with our school and in particular our classroom environments. It’s an opportunity for us to share our successes and to reflect on all the programmes and activities we have in place for our students.

The Tironui Music Trust: A selection process is underway and twenty-six of our year 5 students will now have the opportunity to learn a string instrument while at school. The Tironui Music Trust provides the teachers and the instruments, free of charge, all we need to do is provide the learning spaces. Twenty-two of our year 6 students are continuing their tuition with the Tironui Trust teachers this year, so very soon Papatoetoe Central School will once again have a string orchestra of almost fifty students. This is an exciting opportunity and we look forward to some mini performances later this year. Thank you Tironui Music Trust.

PCS values: It is very pleasing to see our PCS values very evident in our school environment. The students display the values of Polite, Considerate and Sensible around the school, and use their good manners such as please, thank you, excuse me, sorry. Thank you to our families for supporting these very important values for our children.

The NZ Curriculum (NZC): Included in the NZC are a set of key competencies that all NZ schools are required to include in their learning programmes. Each year we select one of these key competencies as a special focus while also addressing the remaining key competencies. At our school this year, we are going to focus on the key competency: Participating and Contributing. Students who participate and contribute in communities have a sense of belonging and the confidence to participate within new contexts.

Have a lovely weekend with your special children.

Kindest Regards

Susan Fidler

Deputy Principal
