From the Deputy Principal

Our value for term 3 is Determination

Determination is all about working really hard

to achieve a goal no matter how difficult or hard it seems to be.

Greetings, Kia ora, Namaste, Ni Hao, Talofa lava, Malo e lelei, Kia orana, Ni sa bula vinaka, Salaam

Dear Parents and caregivers

Welcome back to Term 3. Hopefully you managed to enjoy some special times with your children and families over the holidays. It is great to see the children back at school with enthusiasm to continue their learning.

ICAS Science: We are, once again, delighted with this year’s results in the science exam. Our very clever students have received 10 credit passes, 11 merit passes and 3 distinction passes. Congratulations to those students. Please note more information in the next section of this newsletter. We have no doubt that our specialist science and technology programme contributes to these great results.

Camp Stalls: Our traditional camp stalls will take place again this term. Each of our Year 6 classes have a turn organising and running the stalls to raise funds for the Year 6 camp in Term 4. The camp stalls are always a wonderful experience that all of our students thoroughly enjoy. Thank you for your continued support with this fundraiser.

Te Whare Ako: Te Whare Ako, the former dental clinic, opened at the end of last term. Each Wednesday, a member of our Senior Leadership Team  – (Ross McGowan, Sue Fidler and Marilyn Gwilliam), will be available to meet with you in Te Whare Ako. We will be there to speak with you about any school-related matters that you would like to discuss with us.  Please feel free to drop in and have a chat.   The times are: 8.30am – 9.00am and 2.45pm – 3.15pm. We look forward to seeing you there.

PCS Values: In Term 3, we are focusing on the value of ‘Determination’. Thank you to you all for your support with our PCS values.

Have a lovely weekend with your special children.

Kindest regards

Susan Fidler

Deputy Principal

Winter Planting: The PCS Gardening Group have been taking home produce from the garden even over the winter months. In recent weeks, we have been enjoying lemon, limes, mandarins, silverbeet, carrots, cabbage, pumpkin, potatoes and lettuce. We even grew brussel sprouts! They grew on a tall stem with the little brussel sprouts under the large leaves.

This week we are planting some more crops. Mr Deed purchased some seedlings for us and we are planting them out in our newly weeded gardens. We also have some carrot seeds to sow. So we are looking forward to taking home goodies from the garden this term, too.

Some ideal plants for sowing at this time of year are tomatoes, peppers, eggplants, peas and sugar snaps. If we are really organised, we can get our salad greens and strawberries ready for summer.                                                                                                From the Gardening Group

Reminder: Invitation to join our Indian Reference Group

Thank you to the families who have replied to the invitation from last term. As a follow up to the Indian Family afternoon which took place in September 2014, we would like to set up an Indian Reference Group which will meet and discuss possible learning opportunities and experiences for our students.

We would like the group to have about 12 members with representatives from across our Papatoetoe Central School Indian community. The meeting time will follow the same format as other parent groups, and will take place at 6:00pm for 1 hour on Thursday, 20 August. Details will follow soon about the first meeting.

If you are interested in becoming a member of this group, could you please complete the form below.
