Year 2 Tui Newsletter Term 4

Kia ora Parents / Caregivers,

This is just a brief letter updating you on our topics for this term as well as a few friendly reminders.Tui

For literacy the children will be writing a lot of poems as well as doing some descriptive writing and writing to tie in with Christmas towards the end of the year. In maths we usually start with a focus on number recognition and number knowledge and then move onto strategy work with addition and subtraction. The children will also be looking at measurement – specifically money, appropriate again to this time of the year with a lot of spending happening around Christmas time.

For our major Social Studies unit, the children will be looking at different cultural festivals and celebrations, specifically Diwali as well as Christmas which are most relevant this time of the year. Our minor Health unit centres around road safety and learning how to keep safe when travelling.

Important reminders….

  • As we are a Health Promoting School we ask that you do not send along any cakes or sweet treats for birthdays.
  • Sun protection is important at PCS so we ask that ALL children wear a school hat during term 1 and term 4. School hats can be purchased from the school office for $16.

The last term of the year is always a busy one but also a lot of fun and we really look forward to seeing you at our end of year Christmas Whanau Day. Continue to keep a look out for important dates in our fortnightly school newsletter or on our school website under ‘Events’. If you have any further queries then please see your child’s classroom teacher.

Regards, Nicola Wilson, Athlene Wallbank, Morag Wham, Darian Curry and Dev Singh
