From the Associate Principal

Greetings, Kia ora, Namaste, Ni Hao, Talofa lava, Malo e lelei, Kia orana, Ni sa bula vinaka, Salam

Dear parents and caregivers,

Welcome back to Term 2. I hope you managed to enjoy some special times with your children and families over the Easter break. It was great to see some of our families at the Anzac service that took place at our school – this is a very important day in New Zealand’s history.

Thank you: Many thanks to our school families who made donations of money and items to the family who experienced the house fire last term. The amount donated was $950 which was greatly appreciated by the family. Thank you PCS for your generosity and support.

Term 2: It is great to see the children return to school with enthusiasm to continue their learning. Options programmes have started and these programmes are a great opportunity for the children to participate in activities where they have talents and interest. Our winter sports coaching has started as the teams prepare for the school sports exchanges and zone sports events this term. Thank you to the teachers and parents who are coaching our school teams.

Two of our learning programmes in Term 2 are ‘Keeping ourselves safe’ and ‘Famous New Zealanders’. I am sure our children know many of current famous New Zealanders from Richie McCaw, Casey Kopua, Willie Apiata, Lorde, Eleanor Catton, Valerie Adams to Lydia Ko. The study will be a fantastic opportunity to learn about the many Famous New Zealanders throughout our country’s history. You may wish to start talking with your children about some of these people – Rowena Jackson, Dame Whina Cooper, Sir Edmund Hillary, Kate Sheppard, Sir Keith Sinclair, Godfrey Bowen, Richard Pearse, Ernest Rutherford, Jean Batten, Mother Aubert, Charles Upham and many more.

Keeping in Touch: Just a reminder that teachers are in their classrooms before school if you wish to have a quick chat. Another source of information about your child’s class is on the classroom blogs. The blogs share some of the work that is happening in the classroom. These can be found on our school website

There may be times when you wish to speak to the Deputy Principal, Sue Fidler, if your child is in Year 1 to 3; or the Associate Principal, Ross McGowan, if your child is in Year 4 to 6. Please feel free to make an appointment at the office.

PCS values: It is very pleasing to see our PCS values very evident in our school environment. The students display the values of Polite, Considerate and Sensible around the school, and their good manners such as please, thank you, excuse me, sorry. In Term 2, we are focusing on the value of ‘Honesty’. Thank you to our families for supporting these very important values.

All the best for a very enjoyable weekend with your children.

Kindest regards

Ross McGowan
Associate Principal
