From the Principal

Greetings, Kia ora, Namaste, Ni Hao, Talofa lava, Malo e lelei, Kia orana, Ni sa bula vinaka, Salam

Dear parents and caregivers,

Many thanks for your support for the SPCA last Friday. It was such a worthwhile fundraiser. Our students enjoyed a change from wearing school uniform and also supporting such a wonderful organisation.

Board of Trustees News – Farewell to Caroline White and Ian Foster: Firstly I would like to thank Caroline White and Ian Foster who left our BoT at the recent elections. Caroline was on our BoT for 11 years and Ian Foster for 6 years. Caroline’s contribution to the finance portfolio was outstanding and we are deeply grateful for her wonderful work and support for our school over a very long time. Ian made a fine contribution to the property side of things and was always willing to help wherever and whenever help was needed where our students were concerned. We will miss both of them very much around the board table and wish them and their families all the very best for the future.

Congratulations to our new BoT: We are delighted to welcome 3 new members to our BoT – Shaundra Biggs, Christine Hutchby and Navtej Randhawa. We look forward to working with our new trustees and thank them for their willingness to contribute to our school in this way. We also congratulate Teresa Bews and Stan Good who were re-elected. It will be great to have their experience and wise counsel as we head into the next 3-year term of the BoT. Thank you all so much for your commitment to our school.

2013 Annual Report: A copy is available in the school office.

AshleyCongratulations to Ashley Porter: We have a national sparring champion! Last weekend Ashley won the NZ championship in the 25-35kg weight group. We are so proud of you, Ashley. Sparring involves considerable skill and strength. Ashley is light on her feet and has strong capabilities in many sports. Well done Ashley – you are a PCS star!

A Reminder – School Uniform: Black Footwear and Black Socks: It is pleasing to see most children now in correct school uniform. There are still some, however, who are not wearing black socks and shoes. Can you please ensure that your children wear the correct uniform to school each day. Thank you for your support.

All the best for the weekend. I hope that you can spend some very special time with your very special children.

Kind regards

Marilyn Gwilliam
Principal

Tips from the PCS Environment & Sustainability Team: There are a number of simple steps we can all take to save water and power and Reduce, Reuse and Recycle much of the waste that is produced in our school and at home. Home energy checklist. The following tips help to save energy and dollars – Turn off all lights and computers when not being used. Use energy efficient light bulbs – they cost more than regular ones but save you money in the long run. Use cold water as often as possible to wash your clothes. Take a shower instead of a bath. Fix leaking taps. Only use the dishwasher and washing machine when they have a full load.

Emergency clothing: We have had many calls on our emergency clothing this year and we are running out of boys and girls underwear. If you have any spare that you would like to donate to our school it would be greatly appreciated. These are needed for emergency changes. If your child has been or is lent clothing could it please be washed and returned to the school office as soon as possible.

Papatoetoe Primary Schools Winter Zones: Next Tuesday 18 June the Papatoetoe cluster will have their annual zones for Netball, Rugby & Soccer at Bruce Pulman Park, Papakura. The saving day will be on Friday, 21 June. The first round of games will start at 9.45. Students will be travelling to the park by bus, no cost is involved for parents. They will need to bring a packed lunch, water bottle, appropriate footwear and warm clothing. They will be wearing our school sports uniforms.

A special thank you to all coaches who have spent the term practicing with their teams and good luck to the children who will be participating. Parents, your support is most welcome.
