From the Principal

Dear parents and caregivers,

Sewing Option Group: We delivered the dolls’ beds made by our senior students to Middlemore hospital yesterday. These were gratefully received by one of the Kids First managers. It was a special moment. Many thanks again to Morag Wham, Paulette Thompson, Darlene Martin and Gill Frost.

Dental Clinic: At the end of this term, the DHB will operate a mobile dental service at our school. The clinic on Great South Rd will close and our school will be able to use the clinic for other purposes. Your children will go to the mobile unit for their dental checks that the DHB will transport to the school. It will be stationed in the lower carpark on St George St. The DHB will provide you with more information shortly.

Maths Week: Maths week is in full swing and students are engaging in lots of different maths related activities. We also have the cluster Mathex competition coming up later in the term with a focus on problem solving using mathematical applications. Thank you to our Maths Lead Teacher, Dev Singh, who has been inspiring us all in things mathematical!

Before and After School Care: On Monday night, our BoT approved the introduction of a before and after school care programme at our school. We are completing the final negotiations with SKIDS – (Safe Kids in Daily Supervision). Once the necessary audits have been completed we will get underway. We are hoping that this will be at the beginning of term 4. I will keep you up to date with this. SKIDS will run a programme in the school hall from 7.30–8.30am and 3.00–6.00pm. All the details that you require will be available from the school office in due course.

All the best for the very best of weekends.

Hei ano te whetu e tu nui, kotahi – a tatou tamariki

There is only one star shining – our children

Kind regards

Marilyn Gwilliam

Principal

Tips from the PCS Environment & Sustainability Team: Here are a number of simple steps we can all take to save water and power and Reduce, Reuse and Recycle much of the waste that is produced in our school and at home. MAINTAIN YOUR VEHICLE – Not only are you extending the life of your vehicle, but you are creating less pollution and saving petrol. A properly maintained vehicle, clean air filters, and inflated tires can greatly improve your vehicle’s performance and it might not hurt to clean out the boot—all that extra weight will be adding to your petrol bill.

Tips from TravelWise – Road Safety: Safety Belts Save Lives – Always buckle up, front and back. Children need to be in an appropriate child restraint for their age and size www.childrestraints.co.nz

ICAS Science Results: We are thrilled to congratulate these students who received the following awards:
