From The Principal

Dear parents and caregivers,

3 Way Conferences: Please note next Thursday 2 August in your diary. This is the date for the very important 3 way conferences where teachers will meet with you and your child to discuss their recent report and to set goals for terms 3 and 4. It is a very important time for everyone as we value a positive partnership with you, to ensure optimum achievement for your children. At the conference, specific goals, based on your child’s report, will be developed. Also, please complete the back section of the report in preparation for your 3 way conference. Details for booking your conference time online are included in the next section of today’s newsletter. Please make sure that you book your time.

Also, remember to view the science fair in the hall and the library book fair. You will have the opportunity to purchase a book for your child and also for our school library. Thank you in advance for your support.

PTA News: Many thanks to our wonderful PTA who are going to fund new sports, choir and kapa haka uniforms as well as a class set of scooters for our year 1 and 2 classes. These will be used under teacher supervision during physical education lessons. Thank you all for your support of PTA fund raisers. The next sausage sizzles will be on Monday 6 August for the seniors and Tuesday 7 August for the junior students.

School Haka and Pepeha: I would like to thank Darren Williams from our parent community for writing our school haka. Darren has written an amazing PCS haka, that we will teach our students. Conceptualised by the central ridge pole in a traditional Maori meeting house, it has a central school focus and includes our PCS values. We can’t wait to begin teaching it. Kia ora, Darren.

I would also like to thank Barry Smith for writing our school pepeha. Barry is working with groups of students to learn this way of introducing themselves in te reo Maori. Kia ora, Barry. We are very fortunate to have Darren and Barry contributing to our school in these ways.

All the best for a wonderful weekend. We look forward to seeing you all here next Thursday afternoon or evening.

Hei ano te whetu e tu nui, kotahi – a tatou tamariki

There is only one star shining – our children

Kind regards,

Marilyn Gwilliam

Principal

Tips from the PCS Environment & Sustainability Team: There are a number of simple steps we can all take to save water and power and Reduce, Reuse and Recycle much of the waste that is produced in our school and at home. TURN OFF LIGHTS: Always turn off the lights when you leave a room. Fluorescent bulbs are affected by the number of times it is switched on and off, so turn them off when you leave a room for 15 minutes or more. You’ll save energy on the bulb itself, but also on cooling costs, as lights contribute heat to a room.

Book Club: The book club orders will close tomorrow Friday, 27 July 2012. Would you please make sure all orders and money are put into a sealed envelope and ALL CHEQUES are made out to Papatoetoe Central School, as we send one cheque to pay for our book order.

Scholastic Book Fair: This will be held in the Library in Week 3, starting Monday, 30 July and available for viewing on our 3 way conference day. If you would like to donate a book to the school library, you can choose a book from the selection and your gift will be acknowledged with a label inside the book.
