From The Principal

Dear parents and caregivers,

We are enjoying the autumn leaves at school. The gorgeous old trees around our school are putting on their best show. The deep oranges, reds and browns are particularly stunning this year. The children are enjoying crunching the leaves under their feet as they move around the school. Our property team spent the entire morning on Monday gathering leaves for our compost bins after the big blow over the weekend. There is a wonderfully busy atmosphere as many children are participating in the activities that staff are offering during the break times. There is so much for the children to do. I am very proud of our talented staff who willingly share their skills and passions with your children.

PTA: Sincere thanks to Wendy Barwell and Stan Good for the sensational sausage sizzles last week – they were a great success each day. Wendy and Stan – you are stars! Everyone enjoys sausage sizzle day and our school benefits from the funds raised.

Reading Information Meetings: Thank you to Kirsty Paterson for taking the first reading meeting for parents, caregivers and grandparents yesterday. Thank you to the grandparents who came along. It was good to see you here and have a chat about helping children at home with reading. Kirsty will be taking 3 more sessions at 9.00am – 9.30am on Wednesday 30 May, 13 and 27 June. Please come to the school office first and our administration team will show you where to go for the meeting.

Teachers in Training: We are very pleased to welcome 9 student teachers from the Faculty of Education. They are here to do a 5 week practicum and we are enjoying supporting their development as teachers.

BOT Annual Meeting: You are all welcome to attend Monday evening’s BoT meeting at 5.30pm in the oval room. We will have the annual meeting first, followed by the regular May BoT meeting.

All the best for the best of weekends. Go the Blues and the Warriors!

Kind regards

Marilyn Gwilliam

General Notices

Assembly Day: On Monday, 21 May, Room 11 will lead our assembly. As always you are most welcome to attend but please make sure that you are seated by 1.15pm.

Class visits to St Christopher’s Residential Home: Tomorrow, Friday, 18 May (weather permitting) at 1.30pm, Room 11 will be visiting St Christopher’s Hospital.

Tips from the PCS Environment & Sustainability Team: There are a number of simple steps we can all take to save water and power and Reduce, Reuse and Recycle much of the waste that is produced in our school and at home. BAN BATHTIME! Have a no-bath week, and take showers instead. Baths require almost twice as much water as a shower. Not only will you reduce water consumption and your water bill, but you will also reduce the energy costs associated with heating the water.

Absences: A reminder to parents that we have an answer phone on each morning so that absence messages can be recorded. A large number of parents still have to be contacted when students are away and one of our staff members spends a considerable amount of time on this each morning. If the school is not notified from day one of their absence, your child will be marked as truant. Please stay in contact during their absence and make use of our answer phone by simply leaving their name, room number and a brief reason for their absence. Thank you for your help and consideration.

Entertainment Book: We are selling copies of the Entertainment Book through our school again this year. The book costs $65.00 and is an outstanding investment in terms of saving money through eating out in a huge range of restaurants, cafes and other entertainment activities. Jocelyn has a copy on display in the school office if you would like to peruse through the huge number of savings on offer.
